August 29, (THEWILL) – Lorient defeated Clermont 2-0 at the Stade du Moustoir with Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi their two-goal hero as they maintained their undefeated start to the season.
With Innocent Bonke was on the bench, Lorient found their rhythm early and their pressure was rewarded when Les Merlus were awarded a penalty after Clermont defender Neto Borges committed a foul in the box.
Moffi dispatched the spot-kick, sending Mory Diaw the wrong way. Clermont struggled to find an equaliser, but Lorient’s defence held firm. And Les Merlus scored once again in the 41st minute with Moffi outwitting the Clermont defence to beat Diaw in a one-on-one take-on.
Seconds into the second period, Borges was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card, which only made Clermont’s predicament even worse. However, in the 62nd minute, Lancers’ Muhammed Cham pulled one back, but it was too late.
In the 82nd minute, Bonke was brought in to get some minutes under his belt. Lorient now sits in fourth place, pending the outcomes of the other games in the French top flight.
