November 05, (THEWILL) – An inflammation in the Achilles tendon of PSG star, Lionel Messi, means the Argentine will miss the Ligue 1 match against Lorient, although Christophe Galtier anticipates his comeback before the World Cup kicks off in Qatar
In his second season at PSG, Messi has been in outstanding form, contributing to 26 goals (12 goals, 14 assists) in all competitions. But with less than two weeks until Argentina’s World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia, a PSG medical update that excluded Messi from Sunday’s game raised concerns about his fitness.
As a precaution, the team announced Messi would miss that game. He will then resume training the following week, and Galtier anticipates he will play against Auxerre on November 13.
In his pre-match presser ahead of Sunday’s game, Galtier said: “Messi has inflammation in his tendon. I think he will be available for our next game, just like Presnel Kimpembe, who is still in rehabilitation. He should be back for the Auxerre game.”
While other managers, such as Carlo Ancelotti of Real Madrid and Antonio Conte of Tottenham, have said their players will not be considering the World Cup, Galtier admitted he often discusses such matters with his own team.
