August 11, (THEWILL) – Benjamin Mendy, Manchester City’s defender, has entered a not-guilty plea to a second charge of rape.
Previously, the 28-year-old was accused of seven rapes, one sexual assault, and one attempted rape, all of which he has denied. At a hearing before his trial at Chester Crown Court, which is scheduled to start on Monday and stretch for more than three months, he entered a not-guilty plea.
Mendy will testify with co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, who is accused of 12 offences, including eight rapes and four charges of sexual assault involving eight women, that are believed to have occurred between July 2012 and August 2021.
Following his original arrest in August of last year, the French international, who has made 50 Premier League appearances, was suspended by Manchester City. He was later released on bail in January.
