October 12, (THEWILL) – Kylian Mbappe became Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time leading scorer in European play when he netted a penalty against Benfica even though Christophe Galtier’s team was held to a 1-1 draw.

The encounter on Tuesday at Parc des Princes followed persistent rumours that Mbappe was dissatisfied at PSG and would be looking for a transfer out in January.

Before the game began, PSG’s head of football, Luis Campos, categorically refuted those reports. The France international then put the rumours to rest by converting a penalty in the first half to put his team in front and overtake Edinson Cavani in the club’s European records.

After the break, Joao Mario scored a penalty of his own to tie the score, but Mbappe’s late goal was disallowed for offside, therefore neither team was able to earn a ticket out of Group H at the moment.

Sunday’s Le Classique will see PSG face Marseille at home before Benfica travel to lower-division team Caldas SC the following day in the Taca de Portugal.
