Obafemi Martins was all smiles as he sat down with supersport.com to discuss his return to the Super Eagles following a four-year spell on the side lines.
The “weapon of mass destruction” made his international bow with the Super Eagles in 2004 but has only been capped 39 times.
He earned his 39th cap in Lobamba when he replaced John Mikel Obi in the 71st minute as the Super Eagles drew 0-0 with Shilangu Semnikati on Friday at Somhlolo National Stadium, Lobamba.
The 31-year-old said he was surprised when head coach, Sunday Oliseh handed him a recall ahead of the double header against Swaziland.
“I was surprised because I was thinking about focusing on my team, Seattle Sounders.
“I spoke to the coach (Oliseh) and he decided to invite me after I told him that I wanted to play again for the national team,” Martins told supersport.com.
He then took the time to reflect on Friday’s 0-0 draw with Shilangu Semnikati in Lobamba.
“The game against Swaziland wasn’t too good but we have to move on and think about the next game on Tuesday.
“The good thing now is that we now know how they play and we will be looking to use that to punish them, score a few goals and win.
“They counter attack a lot and we just have to use our pace as we normally do to slow them down and to try to create our own game so we score and win the game.
“It’s a very important game and we are appealing to the fans to come out in their numbers to support us,” he said.
