January 25, (THEWILL) – Manchester United has agreed to loan Anthony Martial to Sevilla until the end of the season. Sevilla will cover the Frenchman’s salaries, but there will be no fee. The arrangement is contingent on Martial passing a medical exam.
In December, Martial told interim manager Ralf Rangnick that he wanted to quit the club. Last month, United turned down Sevilla’s first offer, in which the Spanish club offered to cover half of Martial’s £240,000 weekly salary.
However, talks with Sevilla have continued, and a breakthrough was achieved when the loan price was included into Martial’s pay, which Sevilla is fully covering.
On Tuesday, Martial will fly to Sevilla with his agent Philippe Lamboley to finalise the agreement.
The French striker has only made seven appearances for United this season, and he came in as a substitute against West Ham on Saturday, his first since Rangnick took over in late November.
When United signed him from Monaco in September 2015, he became the most expensive teenager in football.
After Angel Di Maria and Juan Mata, he was United’s third most expensive signing at the time, with a £36 million price that included add-ons that increased the transfer’s potential value to £58 million.
