June 27, (THEWILL) – Bacary Cisse, Sadio Mane’s agent, has stated that the forward’s decision to move to Bayern Munich was not based on his dissatisfaction with his relatively low pay.
Mane had signed a new deal early in the 2018/2019 season, when he was still on the verge of becoming an Anfield superstar, and it was rumoured that he was making “a meagre” £100,000 per week at Liverpool, which is considered far less than what players of his calibre command elsewhere.
“Those are false rumours”, Cisse said. “A player of Sadio’s calibre can’t be earning the salary that people are speaking about. The numbers circulating are completely wrong. Sadio was already earning more than that when he joined Liverpool from Southampton. He extended his contract in 2018 and his salary was much higher than the numbers circulating in the media.”
Mane himself addressed this issue in his first interview after the deal was confirmed, saying he departed Liverpool, not for a bigger pay, but in the quest of a new challenge because he knew he only has so much time to play at the highest level.
Luis Diaz, who Liverpool acquired back in January, will serve as Jurgen Klopp’s long-term left wing solution, with summer acquisition, Darwin Nunez, expected to command the most playing time at the top of the team sheet in the central striker position.
