Update: Mané Wins African Player Of The Year, Oshoala Too

SAN FRANCISCO, January 7, (THEWILL) – Senegalese Sadio Mané has won the African Player of the Year Award at the 2019 CAF Awards.

The Liverpool FC playmaker has had a remarkable season at Liverpool FC emerging champions of Europe and Club World football. Liverpool is on the verge of winning the Premier League this season.

Mané made 63 appearances for the team in 2019 and netted 35 times with 11 assists and 3 trophies.

This is Mané’s first win after beating fellow Liverpool teammate and Egyptian star, Mohammed Salah, who won it back-back in 2017 and 2018, and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, while Barcelona.

Nigeria and Barcelona’s Asisat Oshoala also emerged Women’s Player of the Year.

The star-studded ceremony held at the Red Sea resort of Hurghada in Egypt with former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger in attendance.

Mané, who was runner-up to Salah in the two last editions, becomes the second Senegalese to win the award after another now retired Liverpool player, El Hadji-Diouf in 2001 and 2002.
