June 08, (THEWILL) – Senegal defeated Rwanda 1-0 in their 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday, thanks to a penalty from Sadio Mane in stoppage time at the Abdoulaye-Wade Stadium in Diamniadio.
The Teranga Lions won their second encounter in Group L of the qualifiers for the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, giving them maximum points after two games as the Liverpool forward converted the penalty with the final kick of the game to defeat Rwanda.
The Wasps were successful in getting an approval to play their home match at their opponents’ stadium, and it nearly paid off as they hung on for a long time until Mane scored. After being set up by Saliou Ciss, the England-based striker was taken down in the box, and pulled himself up to dispatch the resulting spot-kick with ease.
Rwanda had managed to thwart the reigning African champions and World Cup-bound Lions, who did not have many opportunities, with the exception of this last-minute penalty
Coach Aliou Cisse and his victorious charges claimed yet another victory, earning them six out of six points and putting them atop their qualifying Group L.
