January 31, (THEWILL) – Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood has been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault after claims surfaced on social media pointing to domestic violence.
As THEWILL reported, the player’s girlfriend, Harriet Robson, released photographs, video, and an audio clip on social media earlier on Sunday. The post containing the evidence has since been removed.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Police said: “Greater Manchester Police were made aware earlier today (Sunday 30 January) of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
“An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.
‘He remains in custody for questioning.”
This development follows the reaction from the club, which suspended Greenwood from training and playing with the rest of the squad. It read: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”
