February 10, (THEWILL) – Mauricio Pochettino is an increasingly popular candidate to be the next Manchester United manager among the club’s current squad for the post presently held by Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis.
After Ed Woodward’s long-awaited exit at the end of last month, the search for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent successor has intensified. There are indications that Pochettino’s arrival will be welcomed in the locker room as a “significant” part of the squad would support the Argentine taking charge.
Yet, the question remains if he will leave Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, to make the switch back to the English Premier League and fulfill the wishes of members of the United squad that want to play under him.
However, he is not the only one being considered at the club level. Another target is Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who has done wonders in Amsterdam in recent seasons. Marc Overmars, his long-time working colleague, recently resigned as Sporting Director after a series of sexual misconduct charges.
Brendan Rodgers, Julen Lopetegui, Roberto Mancini, and Luis Enrique have all been mentioned in the past, but they would be considered outsiders at this point.
United’s summer to-do list includes more than just finding a new manager. There are also a number of first-team players who will be out of contract at the conclusion of the season, as well as David de Gea’s long-term future, even though the club is ready to begin contract negotiations with the Spaniard.
