October 22, (THEWILL) – Marcus Rashford of Manchester United has been described as “hopeful” that he will be fit to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday at Old Trafford.

Since returning from shoulder surgery that caused him to miss the start of the season, Rashford has scored twice in two appearances for United. The 23-year-old was taken off with a minor knock after starting Wednesday night’s Champions League comeback against Atalanta.

After the final whistle, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described it as a ‘dead leg,’ but he did not seem too concerned and expressed optimism about Rashford’s availability for the weekend, saying at the time: “I hope so and I think so. It was a dead leg and sometimes it can take longer than what you want. But if we treat it well, he should be okay.”

Rashford was treated at United’s Carrington training base on Thursday morning. As a result, the player is expected to be cleared in time for the epic clash on Sunday afternoon.

As THEWILL reported, Solskjaer recently sparked controversy by suggesting that Rashford, who has received an MBE and an honorary doctorate for his off-field efforts to combat child poverty in the United Kingdom, should now “prioritise” football.

Rashford’s camp was later reported to be unhappy and disappointed by such a statement. Solskjaer was then forced to clarify that his comments were taken out of context.
