September 09, (THEWILL) – The match between FC Sheriff and Manchester United, in the UEFA Europa League group stage, will take place on Thursday night, as scheduled, according to the club.
As THEWILL reported, the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, made the English Football Association and Football league postpone all games this weekend, in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Numerous midweek European matches for the British club have also been called off due to these postponements. There are matches in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, or UEFA Conference League that Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, West Ham, and Manchester United are set to play in.
However, United have announced on their official website that their Europa League match will go on as scheduled, “Following discussions with the relevant governing bodies and in line with guidance issued by the UK Government, we can confirm our UEFA Europa League fixture against FC Sheriff will take place as scheduled on Thursday evening, in Moldova. Match arrangements will remain the same for fans who are travelling to support the team in Chisinau.”
After suffering a shocking 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad in their opening group stage match, the Red Devils are in desperate need of a victory at the “Sheriff” Sports Complex. Meanwhile, Sheriff defeated Omonoia 3-0 in their away opening.
