August 01, (THEWILL) – The 2022/2023 preseason campaign for Manchester United came to a disappointing conclusion as they drew 1–1 with Rayo Vallecano at home on Erik ten Hag’s Old Trafford debut.
The two major pre-game themes for Manchester United were Cristiano Ronaldo’s comeback and Ten Hag’s debut at home, although the former only played for 45 minutes and the latter was unhappy at the end.
Ronaldo was replaced by Amad Diallo in the second half and, very eager to impress, Diallo gave the hosts the lead shortly after the break. It looked enough for the hosts to win by the slim one-goal margin but Rayo’s Alvaro Garcia pushed the La Liga team to draw even late in the match.
Ten Hag appeared irritated at the final whistle and will have more for his squad to work on as they all continue to prepare for their English Premier League season opener on August 7 against Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford at 2pm in the afternoon.
