Man Utd, Brighton EPL Fixture Postponed Due To COVID-19

December 16, (THEWILL) – Manchester United confirmed via a statement on their website on Thursday that Saturday afternoon’s English Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion has been postponed by the Premier League.

The 1:30 pm kickoff at Old Trafford will now be rescheduled in due course as the club t99k the health of players and staff into consideration when it requested for the fixture to be rearranged given the outbreak of COVID-19 at their training facility.

As THEWILL reported, a number of players and support staff at Old Trafford had to go into isolation due to the outbreak and the club was left with little option other than to seek a postponement which the Premier League Board approved based on guidance from medical professionals.

As a result, United immediately suspended “football training operations at the Carrington Training Complex for a short period to help reduce risk of further transmission.”

The statement read: “Manchester United can confirm that our Premier League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion, scheduled for Saturday 18 December at 12:30 GMT, has been postponed and will be rescheduled in due course.”

“The health of players and staff is our priority. Given the number of players and support staff having to isolate due to COVID-19, the club had no option other than to request the match be rearranged. The Premier League Board took the decision to postpone based on guidance from medical advisors.”

It concluded with an apology to the fans: “We regret any disappointment and inconvenience caused to fans by the postponement.”
