BEVERLY HILLS, April 07, (THEWILL) – The Belgian Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City midfield playmaker, has extended his contract by two years, which will keep until the summer of 2025 at the Etihad Stadium.
The 29-year-old moved to City from Wolfsburg in 2015 and has two years left on his previous contract. He had been in talks over a new deal as far as back as November last year and only resolved the details now to append his signature to the deal.
There were indications in January that De Bruyne had rejected an initial proposal from the Blues of Manchester but talks clearly progressed positively along the direction of improved terms favourable to player and club so that the player was confident enough to put pen to paper.
De Bruyne expressed his excitement at the terms: “I could not be happier. Since joining City in 2015, I have felt at home. I love the fans, my family are settled here in Manchester and my own game has developed really well.
“This football club is geared for success. It offers me everything I need to maximise my performance, so signing this contract was a straightforward decision. I am playing the best football of my career and I honestly feel there is more to come.
“Pep and I see football in the same way. Having that relationship with a manager is so important to me because our objectives are totally aligned and we want the same things.”
He noted that he was more forward-looking now to align with the club’s aims to reach greater heights: “My focus now is on ensuring we have a successful end to the current campaign. Our results and performances so far have been excellent, but we need to make sure we end the season with the silverware we deserve.”
By the term of the contract in 2025, De Bruyne will be into his mid-thirties with his 34th birthday and will be at his decade stay which will match the lengths at the club of legends like David Silva, who left for Real Sociedad last summer, and Sergio Aguero, who will bid farewell this coming summer, as was announced recently.
