May 10, (THEWILL) – An official confirmation has been put out by current English champions Manchester City about winning the race to get Norway attacker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund for roughly £55 million.

The 21-year-old was one of the most sought-after players in the world, with early interest from every top club in signing Haaland this summer due to his cheap release clause, which was once thought to be above £60 million but has since been shown to be lower.

The race came down to a shootout between City and Real Madrid in the end, with the former securing a contract earlier this week, following which Haaland was swiftly freed by Dortmund to straighten things out.

The agreement has now been confirmed, with City stating that Haaland has agreed to join them at the Etihad Stadium.

A brief announcement stated: “Manchester City can confirm we have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland to the Club on 1st July 2022.

“The transfer remains subject to the Club finalising terms with the player.”

Haaland committed to a five-year contract worth less than current top earner Kevin De Bruyne’s, but his contract includes a slew of bonuses that could push him closer to the income that made the older player one of the club’s highest earners.

Haaland and January signing Julian Alvarez will join Pep Guardiola’s team this summer, bolstering a forward line that is already one of the best in the English Premier League and will be better placed to get the elusive UEFA Champions League trophy.
