Man City Climb Up To Second With Comfortable 3-0 Win Over Everton

November 21, (THEWILL) – With goals from Raheem Sterling, Rodri, and Bernardo Silva, Manchester City cut the distance on league leaders Chelsea to just three points with a 3-0 win over Everton at the Etihad Stadium.

When Sterling appeared to be hauled down by Michael Keane in the first half, City were awarded a penalty, but the judgement was overturned after a VAR review. Sterling, on the other hand, could not be denied as he converted a magnificent ball from Joao Cancelo to break the tie on the stroke of half-time.

Rodri hit the top corner with a tremendous shot from range, leaving Jordan Pickford isolated, and the hosts increased their lead 10 minutes into the second half. Late in the game, City added a third goal through Silva, giving the hosts all three points and a clean sheet.

City’s triumph keeps the pressure on Chelsea closing the gap to three points while they leapfrog Liverpool into second place as the title race heats up. The Citizens’ eighth consecutive league win against Everton, a fixture in which they have scored 24 goals, was never in doubt from the moment Sterling deservedly opened the scoring.

Rafael Benitez’s side has now gone six games without a win in the Premier League, their longest winless streak since January 2018 and increasing pressure on the Spaniard.

City will be back in action in three days when they visit Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League group stages on Wednesday night, while Everton will be back in league action next Sunday when they travel to Brentford.
