February 02, (THEWILL) – Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state on Wednesday met with Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state to launch a joint security at border communities being terrorized by kidnappers along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor of both states.
Recall that two junior staff of the federal government agency were reportedly kidnapped at Onigari village on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, while a popular actress and some travellers escaped being abducted on the same road which bordered both states.
Abiodun, while signing a communiqué issued at the end of the Oyo-Ogun Joint Security Meeting with Makinde held at the Presidential Lodge, Abeokuta, said that both states had finalized plans to set up a joint security to combat kidnapping activities at their border towns of the expressway.
The governor, who lamented the kidnappings and other crimes being perpetrated at bother communities of both states, said that it was high time the two governments come together and combat the menace in order to secure lives and properties of the people.
He said “this our borders have allowed us to witness insecurity and lost of lives and We have witness cases of kidnapping and other nefarious activities around this border communities even around the cities we must put a stop to it. No doubt each of the states have peculiar security challenges and we both been dealing with them through our internal security architecture.”
Makinde, on his own part, said that the collaborative efforts of both states on joint security of their border towns would yield a positivity result in combating crimes and criminality especially on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“We came here to initiative this collaborative efforts between our two states because it is the right thing to do and it is absolutely important that we both do it. One thing i am happy about is that this is not about politics, one thing i have always tell people is that don’t kill yourself for politics,” he addA
