BEVERLY HILLS, November 21, (THEWILL) – Olympique Lyonnais Women were handed their first league defeat in almost four years when Marie-Antoinette Katoto netted PSG’s winner on Friday.

The seven-time record-holding European champions and reigning Champions League holders last tasted defeat in France’s top flight in December 2016. On Friday, they failed to find a reply after PSG’s 10th-minute opener.

Katoto’s goal put PSG on top of the table on 25 points from nine games, one ahead of Lyon, whose 80-match unbeaten streak ended with the loss away from home.

However, France internationals Eugenie Le Sommer and Katoto both sustained injuries that could rule them out of next week’s decisive Euro 2022 qualifier against Austria.

Lyon Women have won their League, Division 1 Féminine, 14 consecutive times. Of the seven times they won the Women’s Champions League, the last five times, they have taken it in a row.

They presently hold the Guinness World Record for most consecutive victories in all competitions: 41 wins (from 28 April 2012 to 18 May 2013).
