Lyon Knock Juventus Out From UWCL, To Face PSG In Semi-Finals

April 01, (THEWILL) – Late on Thursday, the Olympique Lyonnais Féminin team beat Juventus in the second leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals.

The seven-time UCL champions are on their way to the semifinals, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain, their French rival.

Juventus had defeated Lyon 2-1 in the first leg putting pressure on the French side in the reverse tie. Lyon put on a comeback show to beat Juventus at home after winning the second leg 3-1, resulting in a 4-3 aggregate. Lyon will be hoping to be reinstated as champions, as they have been in the past.

Former women’s world footballer of the year Ada Hegerberg scored the opening goal for Lyon in the 33rd minute, as she tucked the ball away after a cross from the left by Selma Bacha.

The quarter-final tie was now 2-2 on aggregate before Lyon took the lead on the night and in the tie two minutes later, thanks to Melvine Malard, who headed home a cross from American international and teammate Lindsay Horan.

Three minutes after the hour mark, another American, Catarino Macario, scored the third goal, before Andrea Staskova scored a late consolation goal for Juventus.

All the UWCL’s semi final berths have now been determined. Barcelona will host Wolfsburg in the first leg, while Lyon will travel to Paris for the opening leg of their all-French semifinal. The first leg will take place on April 23, followed by the second leg on April 30.

The Juventus Allianz Stadium in Turin, Italy, will host the final on May 21.
