SAN FRANCISCO, June 17, (THEWILL) – UEFA has decided that Lisbon, the Portuguese capital will host this season’s Champions League final in August rather than Istanbul as previously planned.
This was announced after a meeting of UEFA’s Executive Committee. It was also agreed that the Champions League will now run its course as a mini-competition from the quarterfinal onwards and Benfica’s Estadio da Luz and Sporting’s Estadio Jose Alvalade are the venues to stage the games.
The mini tournament will be from August 12 to 23 and the round of 16 matches are to be completed between August 7 and 8.
