SAN FRANCISCO, October 04, (THEWILL) – Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, popularly called Davido, has joined those calling for the disbandment of the notorious police unit, Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Many Nigerians have been calling for the scrapping of the police unit for their extra-judicial conducts as well as their constant harassment of citizens.
The latest uproar against the unit followed a video that went viral on social media on Saturday where it appeared that operatives allegedly shot a man in Delta State and took away his SUV.
The Delta State police command however later clarified that no shots were fired. It said the operatives of the police unit tried to stop the SUV over suspicious activities but that the driver refused to stop, so they chased the vehicle and in the process one of the occupants jumped out and sustained multiple injuries. He said the victim is alive and being treated in a local hospital in Warri.
This development sparked reactions on social media as many called for the scrapping of the police unit since it has brought more harm than good.
