November 19, (THEWILL) – A former governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, has disclosed that leadership is the greatest challenge facing Nigeria today.

He emphasized that once we get the problem of leadership right, everything else will flow.

The former governor disclosed this in his address during this year’s Bridge Education Summit and Scholarship Awards 2021.

This year’s event, the 10th in the series, was themed Innovative Strategies For Quality Education in Nigeria.

Senator Imoke said:”The greatest challenge of Nigeria is that of leadership.

“Once we get it right with leadership, everything else will flow and it is the most difficult challenge to address”.

Imoke said leadership has a relationship with service, but in Nigeria leadership has been disconnected from service.

He stressed that one of the aims of The Bridge Leadership series is to train young people to appreciate the importance of service in leadership.

“Unless we groom these young people, we will not have the opportunity in future to get them to appreciate the importance of service in leadership.

“We hope to identify the young leaders and maximize the opportunity we give them.

“If you don’t catch them young, you may lose them and you don’t need to wait until they get to university,” he said.

He added that the young ones give him hope as they see things different from adults and are determined and resilient to succeed in life.

He commended his team for making the foundation stand firm for ten years now and seven years post-office as governor.

He promised to give his all to ensure the longevity of the foundation and also offer more opportunities for the young ones.

Hundreds of young pupils as well as teachers from across the state graced this year’s edition
