Late Red Card Spree As Juve Drop Points In 2-2 Draw Against Salernitana

September 11, (THEWILL) – In Saturday’s Serie A tie at the Allianz Stadium, three players were sent off during the Salernitana versus Juventus match, after a possible game-winning goal for the hosts was disallowed by video assistant referees (VAR) in stoppage time.

Salernitana took the lead, thanks to a goal from Antonio Candreva against his former team, but Krzysztof Piatek quickly made it 2-0 for the visitors by burying a first-half penalty.

After the interval, the visitors’ score advantage was reduced by Bremer’s forceful header, and Leonardo Bonucci converted the rebound of his own failed penalty to tie the score in the 93rd minute.

Arkadiusz Milik thought he had scored the game’s winning goal in the 94th minute, but VAR disallowed it for offside. This only added to the drama because Milik was shown a red card for his wild celebrations. In the large-scale brawl that followed on the field, manager Massimiliano Allegri, Juan Cuadrado, and Federico Fazio of Salernitana were all given red cards for their roles in it.

The draw means that Salernitana and Juve finish the day in tenth and eighth on the Serie A standings respectively. If Salernitana had won, they would have been tied with their legendary rivals in points. They are next up against Lecce on Friday, while Juve welcome Benfica for their UCL tie on Wednesday.
