Last Minute Neal Maupay Equalizer Earn Palace A Point Against Brighton

September 28, (THEWILL) – Brighton earned a point at Crystal Palace after Neal Maupay equalised five minutes into injury time with nearly the last kick of the game in the Monday night fixture of matchday six at Selhurst Park that finished 1-1 to the dismay of Palace fans.

Prior to this, Wilfred Zaha’s penalty on the stroke of half-time appeared to have been enough to give the hosts three points. Leandro Trossard barged Conor Gallagher from behind and referee Andre Martinet pointed to the spot.

That allowed the former Manchester United winger, Zaha, the one-on-one chance from 12 yards against Robert Sanchez in the Brighton goal, and the Palace man made no mistake, sending Sanchez the wrong way.

Owing to the absence of crucial midfielder Yves Bissouma due to a knee injury, Brighton were second best for the majority of the night, with Palace not posing a serious danger until the final minutes.

Then Vicente Guaita’s long kick was deflected by Pascal Gross over the Eagles’ defence, and Maupay lobbed the Palace keeper before cupping his ears to the home crowd for the applause and celebration.

Brighton are still in sixth place in the Premier League, but only a point behind leaders Liverpool, while Palace are in 15th place.
