June 25, (THEWILL) – One of Arsenal’s most consistent players in the disappointing season Mikel Arteta’s team managed last year, defender Kieran Tierney, has committed himself to the Gunners by signing a new long-term contract with English Premier League side.

Tierney switched from Celtic, in the Scottish Premier League to the Emirates in a 2019 move for a fee in the region of £25 million, though still recovering from an injury. He became a regular starter as soon as he recovered and the team is willing to have him for long that he was allowed a five-year deal.

The deal that will keep him with the north London club until 2026 means that Arsenal are willing to put the niggling injury problems that have marked his time in the Premier League aside and make the Scottish international a constant feature at the Emirates.

The former Celtic left-back is a key part of Arteta’s squad and has established himself as a leader in the group as well. At several times in his first season, Tierney took responsibility for digging the team out of tough situations with assists from the left flank and even goals of his own to spur the Gunners to success.

He was also part of the Scotland squad that was knocked out in the group stage at the ongoing Euro 2020 although he missed the opening defeat against Czech Republic. But, he returned to the side to start both the 0-0 draw with England at Wembley and the 3-1 defeat to Croatia at Hampden Park in Scotland.

Tierney’s five-year deal secures the player’s stay at the Emirates and is one of the many deals for squad players and prospective targets in the Arsenal side, which is set to make defensive reinforcements ahead of next season. This is already signalled by Arteta’s interest in England international Ben White.

There have already been advanced negotiations with his club, Brighton Hove and Albion, over the likely transfer of the 23-year-old. A deal to bring him over to north London is rumoured to be worth up to £50million and is nearing completion.
