Kano Pillars Relegated As NFF Appeals Committee Upholds Point-Deduction

July 17, (THEWILL) – With the upholding of the decision to deduct three points from Kano Pillars a result of the incidents in their game against Dakkada FC by the Appeals Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Kano Pillars have been relegated from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Earlier on Saturday, the NFF issued a statement that provided confirmation of this on their website. It relates to what occurred during a league match against Dakkada on June 23, 2022, in Kano’s Sani Abacha Stadium, for which Kano Pillars were penalised for unprofessional behaviour.

In the moments after a late equaliser by visiting Dakkada team against the home club, former chairman of Kano Pillars Surajo Yahaya attacked Assistant Referee 1 Daramola Olalekan. In addition, irate Pillars supporters smashed a Sony Full HD camera, belonging to the visitors.

Following the incident, the League Management Company (LMC) docked the Kano Pillars three points, dropping them to 42 points—five points outside of safety—with one game remaining.

However, Pillars appealed the ruling, which the Committee has now rejected effectively ensuring that Pillars are relegated to a lower tier of professional football in Nigeria.
