May 13, (THEWILL) – The Director-general of the Bola Tinubu support group, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has formally dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Jibrin, who represented the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State in 2015, on Friday, held a meeting with Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano.

Kwankwaso is also a presidential hopeful on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

Jubrin had last weekend, announced that he was leaving the APC and would announce his new political party subsequently.

Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano governor, had reportedly made attempt to stop the former lawmaker from leaving the party.

The grievance of Jibrin, THEWILL gathered, is centred around who will represent the Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency on the platform of the APC at the 2023 polls.

He had represented the constituency in the eighth assembly, and won re-election in 2019, but was sacked by the court.

On Friday, the former lawmaker was seen lifting the insignia of the NNPP (a fruit basket) at the home of Rabiu Kwankwaso, a national leader of the party.

Kabiru Rurum, a former speaker of the Kano assembly; Kawu Sumaila, a former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on national assembly (house of representatives) and Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, a house of representatives member, were among the people seen at the home of the former Kano governor on Friday.

Meanwhile, following speculations that Senator Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau was planning to join the NNPP, Governor Ganduje on Friday, stormed the home of the former governor to stop his defection.

Shekarau was said to have stormed Kano alongside Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Friday, in what appears to be a new collaboration to take over power from the ruling APC in 2023.

However, Governor Ganduje, who is apparently aware of unforeseen consequences should Kwankwaso and Shekarau join forces, is said to be working hard to stop his predecessor from moving to the NNPP.

Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau’s spokesperson, Sule Ya’u Sule, who confirmed the meeting, said, “Yes, Governor Ganduje was this evening at Mallam (Shekarau)’s house, but I cannot tell you what actually transpired there.”

Reports had it that the moment Ganduje entered Shekarau’s house, there were thunderous echoes of the senator’s supporters shouting, “We must not be stopped from going out of the APC by whatever reason.”
