August 29, (THEWILL) – Tottenham maintained their unbeaten start in the English Premier League with a 2-0 victory at Nottingham Forest with a Harry Kane brace as the striker missed the opportunity of a hattrick with a missed penalty.
All the same, Kane scored the 200th league goal of his career by finishing beyond Dean Henderson, to ease some of the immense pressure that Forest put on his side in a spirited performance by the EPL newcomers.
Unfortunately, Steve Cook curiously handled the ball on his own goal line after 55 minutes presenting Antonio Conte’s squad a chance to secure the victory, but Henderson produced a great stop of Kane’s penalty attempt.
Kane made amends when he headed in Richarlison’s cross in the 81st minute to become the joint-third top goalscorer in the EPL. It helped move them to 10 points and up to third in the early standings, two points behind first-place city rivals Arsenal. It is their best start in the league since the 2009/2010 season, and they can be true title contenders under Antonio Conte.
It gets worse for Forest as they are up against the superior firepower of champions Manchester City on Wednesday and they will be counting on Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis to get much-needed goals. Up next for Spurs is a Wednesday away tie against West Ham.
