August 14, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur managed a late 2-2 draw at Chelsea on Sunday, thanks to a last-gasp equaliser from their talisman, Harry Kane.
New signing, Kalidou Koulibaly, was given the freedom to break the deadlock with the opening goal Chelsea deserved before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s long-range goal for Tottenham tied the score in the second half.
However, in the 77th minute, Chelsea took the lead once more when Reece James capitalised on some confusion in the Spurs defence to score at the back post. Only for Kane to attack Ivan Perisic’s corner for another equaliser in the 95th minute, sliding a header into the far corner with a tiny touch from James.
The high drama of the match was marked by managerial loggerheads, as Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte got into a tussle at the end of the game. They had to be restrained by officials, earning both managers a red card each from Anthony Taylor, the referee.
As a result of their superior goal difference at this early stage, Tottenham moved up to fourth place with four points, three places above Chelsea. On Saturday, Tottenham will play host to Wolves in their next Premier League match, while Chelsea will play Leeds United the following day at Elland Road.
