Kane Sets EPL Record With Brace As Spurs Wallop Everton 5-Nil

March 08, (THEWILL) – Tottenham improved their UEFA Champions League aspirations while further putting Everton in danger of relegation with a 5-nil thrashing of their visitors in north London on Monday night.

Despite a stuttering start, Spurs seized the lead when Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon combined well to allow the latter lash across goal to Michael Keane, who was waiting to rifle in past his own goalie.

As the hosts made it 2-0, Jordan Pickford was at fault, with Dejan Kulusevski’s poke allowing Son Heung-min to shoot under the England goalkeeper’s body to give Tottenham a comfortable lead after scarcely dominating the game.

Everton’s defensive positioning had gone awry, and they were soon three goals down when their high line was penetrated by Matt Doherty’s ball, which set Harry Kane free. The England captain blasted the ball into the near corner to equal Thierry Henry’s Premier League goal total of 175 goals.

Spurs scored their fourth goal just a minute into the second half. Kulusevski added another assist, this time passing the ball across goal to replacement Sergio Reguilon, who scored with his first touch after taking over for Sessegnon.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin dragging a shot across goal, the Toffees tried to show their offensive teeth, but Spurs came closest when Eric Dier hit the bar with a header.

Within an hour, Tottenham had gone 5-0 up, thanks to another Doherty assist, this time flicking the ball over for Kane to score on the volley, emulating his effort against Leeds last week and overtaking Henry’s Premier League count in the process.

Tottenham ran down the clock to win the victory, bringing in Dele Alli and Vitaliy Mykolenko as substitutes, who were warmly hailed by the home crowd for very different reasons.

Spurs are still in seventh place in the Premier League, three points behind Arsenal and have a superior goal differential than fifth-placed Manchester United, while having two games in hand. All they have to do now is maintain the current momentum.

Everton remain in 17th place, one point clear of the relegation zone. Since 2003/2004, they have not won on the road in a league season. It appears like the situation is hopeless for the team’s chances of staying in the top flight.
