July 27, (THEWILL) – According to a revelation from Dana White, President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), a heavily-anticipated rematch between the “Nigerian Nightmare” Kamaru Usman and title challenger Colby Covington is back on the cards.
The Welterweight Champion will once again be defending his title against Covington when they meet in a welterweight championship rematch at UFC 268 in November, on a date that is yet to be determined.
THEWILL recalls that in their first bout in December 2019, Usman broke Covington’s jaw when he defeated the American and won via TKO late in the fifth round of that their first meeting, at UFC 245.
It was the 34-year-old’s first of four title defenses he had fought to roundly make a name for himself in the division and stamp the authority of his brand as the “Nigerian Nightmare” in the minds of challengers of his crown.
In the most recent title defense of April this year, as reported by THEWILL, Usman knocked out Jorge Masvidal in the second round to improve his win ratio of 19-1, with nine knockouts to his name.
The 33-year-old Covington has only one fight since his loss to Usman. It was from a September 2020 victory over 39-year-old American fighter, Tyron Woodley. Covington won via TKO in Round 5 and believes he has what it takes to overcome Usman this time.
