July 26, (THEWILL) – The Kaduna State Government on Monday suspended the resumption of schools across the state indefinitely.
The state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, disclosed this to officials of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and other community-based associations, who visited him at Government House on Monday.
He said that the government took the decision because of the ongoing aggressive military operations in most parts of the state.
The Governor noted that the ongoing operation was aimed at flushing out the bandits in their different hideouts, saying, “We are concerned about the safety of our children who might be attacked by the angry bandits.”
He urged communities to be vigilant as the fleeing bandits might infiltrate them.
Speaking during the visit, the NMA state Chairman, Dr Aliyu Sokomba, asked the Federal Government to licence the use of firearms to its citizens.
He said this was necessary in order to allow the people to protect themselves from being attacked by the bandits.
Sokomba maintained that approving the use of licensed firearms has become a priority due to incessant cases of kidnapping in recent times including of health personnel.
