Justice Ariwoola To Take Over As New CJN

June 27, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to swear Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), following the resignation of Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, on health grounds.

The CJN’s spokesperson, Ahuraka Isah, confirmed the resignation of Justice Tanko Muhammad, Monday morning.

Justice Ariwoola, who is the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, will be sworn-in Monday, 2pm, according to competent sources.

Born on 22 August, 1958, in Iseyin, Oyo State, Justice Ariwoola was formerly a Justice of the Court of Appeal and was elevated to the Supreme Court bench.

Prior to becoming a Justice of the Supreme Court, he was appointed a judge of the Oyo State High Court in 1992 and later made a Justice of the Court of Appeal in November, 2005.

On November 22, 2011, he was appointed to the bench of the Supreme Court of Nigeria as Justice.

Before his elevation to the Supreme Court, he served as Justice of the Court of Appeal in Kaduna, Enugu and Lagos Divisions.

Ariwoola will retire from the Judicial service in 2028.

He is a Member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association, and the Nigerian Body of Benchers.
