BEVERLY HILLS, December 01, (THEWILL) – The Senate on Tuesday confirmed Mahmood Yakubu as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a second term.
His confirmation followed the presentation of the screening report by Kabiru Gaya, chairman, Senate Committee on INEC.
Gaya said there was no incriminating report against Yakubu and that he displayed high level of intelligence during screening besides having requisite qualification.
He added that the nominee had not participated in any political rally and was not a member of any political party.
“The nominee displayed a high level of intelligence. He is not affiliated to any political party and has never participated in any political campaign.
“The nominee also meets all the requirements for this position”, he told the Senate as he urged the lawmakers to confirm Yakubu.

Some senators took turns to praise the president for reappointing the INEC boss and commended the nominee for a job well done in previous elections.
