SAN FRANCISCO, September 23, (THEWILL) – A tanker accident on Wednesday morning has claimed several lives in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The accident which happened at about 9a.m also saw a family of six burnt to ashes in a Toyota Sienna bus.
Also, among the casualties were Kogi State Polytechnic students, school bus conveying primary and secondary school students, residents and passersby.
Sources said the petrol tanker while making its way to the northern part of the country had a failed break at Felele on the ever busy Lokoja –Abuja road. The fuel tanker was said to have rammed into a parked vehicle and sparked flame. About 8 other vehicles were burnt in the incident.
Efforts to ascertain exact casualty figures proved abortive as personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, the Police were busy evacuating victims.
