SAN FRANCISCO, November 05, (THEWILL) – President Goodluck Jonathan has received with sadness news of the sudden death of the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Mr. Haruna Tsokwa, a presidency statement said Tuesday.
On behalf of himself and the Federal Government, President Jonathan extends heartfelt condolences to the late Speaker’s family, as well as the government and people of Taraba State, the statement by Reuben Abati, Presidential spokesman said.
“The President recalls Mr. Tsokwa’s commendable role in restoring political stability to Taraba State after recent crises and urges political leaders in the state to honour the late Speaker’s memory by ensuring that peace and order continue to reign in Taraba State after his sad and untimely demise.
“President Jonathan prays that God Almighty will comfort the late Speakers family, his colleagues in the Taraba State House of Assembly, his friends and political associates as they mourn the peace-loving patriot and true democrat,” the statement added.
Late Taraba Speaker was a political stabiliser – Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has paid tribute to late Speaker saying his stabilising factor in the politics of Taraba state especially at this crucial time will be sorely missed.
The former Vice President said in a statement by his media office in Abuja Monday that it was an irony of life that Tsokwa who miraculously survived attack by gunmen on the Jos-Abuja Road in September succumb to the cold hands of death after a reported brief illness.
Atiku said that the best way to immortalise the late Speaker is to sustain the political stability in the state for which Tsokwa had assiduously worked for before his death.
He expressed his condolences to the Tsokwa, family and the people and government of Taraba State over the demise of their legislative leader.
He prayed to God for grant his soul eternal repose and to strengthen and the family.
