Jesus Pleased To Play Alongside Other Gabriels, Commends Them

July 06, (THEWILL) – Gabriel Martinelli’s success with the Gunners has not shocked new Arsenal acquisition, Gabriel Jesus, and he is eager to play with him at the club level.

Jesus became their fourth acquisition of the summer transfer window on Monday, after completing his £45 million transfer from Manchester City. He will partner up with Martinelli, a member of the international team, and they might even engage in a joint offensive manoeuvre.

Martinelli moved from the Brazilian lower division team, Ituano, to Arsenal in 2019 and Jesus believes the 21-year-old has always had the ‘quality’ to succeed in England. He said: “I’m so happy with him. He went to train with us in the national team [in the summer of 2019] and was in the Copa America in Brazil. We saw him and his qualities, and he can do things other players cannot.”

While acknowledging that there have already been many jokes about how confusing it will be to have three players with the same name on the same side, Jesus was also full of appreciation for fellow Brazilian and namesake Gabriel Magalhaes.

“Now it’s three [Gabriel’s at Arsenal]! There’s a lot of jokes with us now, but they are very good guys. I’m so happy for them because they deserve to be in a big club like Arsenal, and they did so well last season. I’m so happy to be here with them,” Jesus said.
