November 25, (THEWILL) –  Ahead of 2023 general elections, a group of political gladiators in the various wards in Itu and Ibiono Ibom local government areas have rallied round support for Edidiong Nelson Ekong’s aspiration to vie for the federal constituency seat in the Green Chambers of the National Assembly.

The group in a meeting held at the weekend in Uyo under the aegis of God’s Grace Project 2023 led by Dr Nsima Edet- former chairman, Itu local government area, said that the group was formed after months of consultations with people from different interest groups cutting across professional, political and the business community.

Edet who serves as the Director-General of God’s Grace Project 2023 reasoned that the 2023 elections will witness a departure from the business as usual attitude that has characterised the nation’s political space, especially with the review of the Electoral Act and the clamour for direct primaries in the selection of candidates of political parties.

He described Ekong as a level-headed and amiable personality who’s imbued with charisma and self confidence.

“There are three things that a man must possess to win election, the three things to look for in such a person are, charisma, good will and humility, and Edidiong Ekong has all the three, and he’s well accepted by the people of Itu and Ibiono Ibom”, Edet said.

He described Ekong as the best person for the job of representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency in the House of Representatives in 2023.

“He is quite a humble person, he doesn’t boast about himself, even with his credentials, he is a successful businessman; he is into petroleum business.

“He is a hotelier and has also invested in other business ventures. We are happy that a person of his caliber is coming out to seek political office ”,Edet, and “even if you want to talk about zoning, he is favoured, because he is from Ibiono Ibom, and by 2023 the next House of Representatives member is coming from Ibiono.

“We in Itu   local government have taken our turn, and that’s why you see us coming out to support him”.

Addressing the gathering, Edidiong Ekong said that he was impressed with the array of political eggheads that turned up for the meeting.  He appreciated them for honouring him with their attendance.

He told them that his ambition was borne out of the hunger to serve the people of Itu/Ibiono Ibom. He lamented that the Constituency was in deficit of effective and efficient representation, and that his entry into the race was to bridge the gap.

He mentioned that the meeting was convened in order to consult with the people on the best way forward for the people.

“I will not call it ambition, it is not about me, it is about the people of Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency.

“It is about how best the resources that accrue to our constituency can be shared and deployed for the empowerment and the development of our people according to their needs, skills and aspirations”, Ekong.

The group coordinator said that he was sure that he has what it takes to win the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Ekong, an accounting graduate, had worked with Mobil  Oil  Plc, and rose to the directorship cadre before venturing into private business.

The highpoint of the meeting was the inauguration of ward coordinators in all the 22 wards that make up the federal constituency.
