It’s All Rumor No, Plan To Impeach Gov. Lalong – Hon. Abok Ayuba

September 01, (THEWILL) – Plateau State House of Assembly speaker, Hon. Abok Ayuba, has eased fears that the House is plotting to impeach Governor Simon Lalong, reassuring that the House has no such agenda.
The Governor and the lawmakers recently had a strenuous relationship following persistent attacks and killings in the state, culminating in the House giving the governor two weeks ultimatum to stop the carnage.
Lalong and his men got agitated by the ultimatum, interpreting it to mean an attempt by the House to oust the governor over his weak handling of the crises in the state, a development that allegedly led to a frantic attempt to seal the Assembly complex.
But speaking to journalists in Jos on Wednesday, the Speaker said, the House had no impeachment plans up its sleeves, dismissing it as an unfounded rumour.
“Lalong is the Governor of Plateau State and the people of the state voted massively for him for two terms, we in the Plateau State House of Assembly would work and support him to complete his tenure.
As the people’s representatives, we as a House became worried about the frequent killings and mowing of crops in the state and had to call on the state government and Federal Government to act”, Abok said.
He added that Lalong, who is a listening governor, has started acting on the ultimatum given by the House of Assembly.
“As you can see, our Governor Simon Lalong has visited troubled spots in the state, he has visited Yelwa Zangan where some persons were killed recently.
“The governor has also addressed citizens of the state as well as match words with action as the State Deputy Governor, Professor Sonni Tyoden on Monday led a high powered government delegation to deliver relief materials to survivors of the attacks.
“As an Assembly with people at heart, we call on Plateau citizens to have confidence in us with renewed commitment, but they should also know that we are never against Lalong or planning to impeach him”, Abok explained.
According to him, they were always willing to partner with the Executive to ensure lasting peace is restored to Plateau State while appealing to residents of the state to be their brother’s keeper at all times.
