Interest In Aubameyang Grows In Chelsea

August 5, (THEWILL) – Frenkie de Jong may not be the only player Chelsea’s continuing negotiations with Barcelona result in, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s name has also come up for transfer.

The two clubs have been in open communication for the past month, with Barcelona publicly seeking to sign Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta, after swooping in to sign Jules Kounde, a player who was wanted by the Blues.

Chelsea recently eliminated Azpilicueta from the picture by giving him a two-year contract deal, but when the Stamford Bridge team chose to make a bid for De Jong, the two clubs reopened their negotiations, and in the process, they may have discovered the solution to their striker shortage.

However, after spending a lot of money on transfers for Sevilla center-back Kounde, Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, and Leeds United winger Raphinha, Barcelona are desperate to balance their books and 33-year-old Aubameyang is the most probable candidate to be let go.

De Jong and Aubameyang are deemed surplus, and given that Chelsea have yet to sign a replacement for Romelu Lukaku after he was loaned out to Inter, this may be the ideal pairing especially as the Gabonese has EPL experience. The striker scored 20 goals in 38 club appearances, including 11 goals in 17 La Liga games last season.
