August 13, (THEWILL) – Denzel Dumfries’ dramatic 95th-minute goal gave Inter a 2-1 victory over Lecce to start their Serie A season with Romelu Lukaku, opening the scoring in his return to the Nerazzurri.
On his second Inter debut, Lukaku needed just 82 seconds to head in the opening goal, but Simone Inzaghi’s team appeared to be off to a shaky start when Assan Ceesay equalised three minutes after the half.
However, late in stoppage time, Inter’s substitute Dumfries was there to score from a corner, giving them a victory to open the new season with maximum points.
After seeing defending champions and city rivals AC Milan, defeat Udinese in their own season opener early on Saturday, Inter made sure they equalled that achievement at the start of what is certain to be another exciting title chase for the Milan duo.
Next Saturday, Lecce will hope for victory when they visit to Sassuolo and, on the same day, Inter will host Spezia for their matchday two ties.
