January 25, (THEWILL) – An unfortunate turn of events will see Barcelona missing top attacker Ansu Fati again this season. Fati has been plagued by injuries in the last year, suffering a catastrophic knee injury before recovering long enough to pick up a hamstring issue.

As THEWILL reported, the young striker had only recently returned from that hamstring injury during Barcelona’s Super Cup campaign only for him to now be sidelined once more.

Fati limped out with misery visibly etched on his face during Barca’s Copa del Rey match against Athletic Club, well aware that he had suffered yet another setback and some time on the sidelines.

It has subsequently been verified that the Spain international’s hamstring issue has flared up.

On Monday, Fati’s father and his agent, Jorge Mendes, attended a crucial meeting in which the advantages of all choices were discussed.

Surgery is seen as the most conservative option, as it is most likely to correct the problem. However, surgery will require time away from the field, and the player has reservations about this, as he does not want to miss any more football in a World Cup year.

Barcelona wants Fati to have surgery, and club specialists discussed the advantages and disadvantages to him on Monday, despite the fact that he may have to miss three months.

He has only appeared in ten games across all competitions, and Xavi has been hesitant to utilise him heavily since taking over as coach.

Another part of this predicament that the Blaugrana is concerned about is the psychological impact of missing nearly two years due to injuries.

He has been forced to live through a really terrible sporting position since he was 19 years old, and it appears to be getting longer and longer.
