January 14, (THEWILL) – After sustaining an injury on Thursday, Manchester United’s Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was forced to leave the club’s Carrington Trafford Training Centre early.

In the build-up to Monday’s FA Cup triumph against Aston Villa, the Portugal international had been suffering from a hip ailment, which, as THEWILL reported, caused him to be left out of the team even if the injury was not thought to be significant.

He was shortly back in training after shaking off that ailment but he has since picked up a new knock, leaving him unable to complete the session on Thursday.

Ronaldo was examined by club medics before being sent home early, and his participation in Saturday’s Premier League match against Villa appears doubtful at the moment.

The iconic forward recently expressed his displeasure with United’s league woes, saying that he will not be satisfied until the Red Devils are in the top three at the very least, but there are now fears that he will not be able to assist this weekend.

The 36-year-old is keen to come home and has spent time in his home’s oxygen chamber to speed up his recovery.

Due to Ronaldo’s absence for the cup match against Villa earlier this week, manager Ralf Rangnick opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation with Edinson Cavani up top alone, rather than his preferred 4-2-2-2.

For Saturday’s league encounter between the two sides, the German boss could choose to deploy Mason Greenwood in his natural position beside Cavani in attack.

United are now in seventh place in the Premier League table, six points behind fourth-placed West Ham United but with two games in hand
