Iniama Calls On Akwa Ibom People To Make State Haven For Investment

September 01, (THEWILL) – Residents of Akwa Ibom state have been called upon to throw their support behind Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Maintain Peace Movement (MPM) to make the state a safe haven for investors, visitors, and residents.

Mr. James Iniama, a governorship aspirant, made this call in Uyo during an interactive session with journalists on his ambition and the way forward for the state. He said the state’s progress is heavily dependent on peaceful cohabitation.

“What does the Bible say about peace? We should seek peace and pursue it. Seeking peace is a deliberate and determined effort. It is painstaking so you do it committedly.

“We don’t only mouth peace but we have to make it our lifestyle to make Akwa Ibom that safe haven everybody wants to come to; whether for tourism, industrial development, business and what have you. If we are thinking development, we must all rise and support the Maintain Please Movement initiative of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

“We lost it all from 2007, people left the state, investors fled, many people started living in other parts of the country and the world at large, it is during this administration that many indegens of the state are returning. I left for a long time. We did not have peace, lives were not secured.

“I am not just a supporter; I am an apostle of the MPM because it is a necessary agenda. It should be preached, it should be thought, so that people would live together in peace”. James Iniama stated.

Iniama, who ran and lost the governorship election in 2007, reiterated his belief in the incumbent’s plans to allow for a seamless succession process and ensure readiness to allow for due process in the candidate selection process.

“Udom Emmanuel does not have an anointed successor and he is honest about it. We the people of the state know about that. As loyal PDP people, we are waiting to follow the party guidelines, which will also follow INEC guidelines for the primaries and what leads to the proper elections.

“Udom Emmanuel is a Governor who understands the rule of succession. We are not in a church that you think an anointing oil will be used to anoint. He understands that we will all compete, exhibit competence. We should know that the Governor came from a banking sector, an organized banking sector, Zenith Bank.

“He rose to the height of an Executive Director, he understands a process. He will like the process to run. I can tell you that Akwa Ibom will get the best of the best. There is no anointed successor anywhere. The Governor cannot have a successor until elections are held. There will be an electoral process that would be published by INEC which will be followed.” The businessman-cum-politician explained.

He was also upbeat about his chances at the party primaries and the polls, promising to build on the master plan of the state’s founding fathers and the industrialization policy of the present administration to create employment opportunities.
