SAN FRANCISCO, March 15, (THEWILL) – The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN) has distanced himself from the dethronement and banishment of former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
THEWILL recalls that Munir Sanusi, Dam Buram Kano who served as chief of staff to the deposed emir of Kano, blamed Malami, for the detention of the former first-class monarch.
Munir, in an affidavit filed in support of a suit by the deposed emir, said Sanusi was detained on the orders of Malami and Ibrahim Muktar, attorney-general of Kano, who were respondents in the suit filed by the deposed emir and marked FHC/ABJ/CS/357/2020.
Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano who appointed Sanusi as emir, had accused President Muhammadu Buhari of ordering his removal, an allegation the president denied.
Malami, while reacting in a short statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Umar Gwandu, on Sunday, said that he is in no way connected with the dethronement of Sanusi.
The AGF maintained that he will not comment on the matter because it is currently pending before the court.
Stressing further, Mr Malami said that the dethronement saga has been effectively submitted for judicial determination. The matter is consequently sub judice.
