SAN FRANCISCO, June 09, (THEWILL) – Kelechi Ihenacho and Semi Ajayi have been axed from coach Gernot Rohrs squad for Africa Cup of Nations 2019.

Both players were part of the 25-man provisional list released last month but will not be part of Nigeria’s team to the AFCON in Egypt.

Both players did not feature on Saturday, as Nigeria were held to a 0-0 draw by Zimbabwe in an international friendly played in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The returning John Mikel Obi makes the cut and is expected to captain the team at the tournament, as well as the assistant skipper, Ahmed Musa, who has stood in his absence.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given all the 24 countries that will participate in AFCON 2019 a deadline of Monday, June 10, to submit their final 23-man squads.

Rohr and the players will fly out to Ismaily, Egypt on Sunday afternoon, to complete the final phase of camping.

The Eagles will face Senegal in their last warm-up fixture this weekend.
