BEVERLY HILLS, January 25, (THEWILL) – Hollywood actress, Kiera Knightley, says she will not be shooting nude and sex scenes anymore if the director is male as it makes her uncomfortable.
The Aftermath, Star wars, King Arthur, Atonement and Pirates of the Caribbean actress told the Chanel Connects podcast in a recent interview.
She said: “It’s partly vanity and also it’s the male gaze. I feel very uncomfortable now trying to portray the male gaze.”
She stated that although she understands that some directors want “somebody to look hot” for sex roles in movies but that’s just not for her anymore.
She said: “I don’t want it to be that kind of, ugh, those horrible sex scenes where you’re all greased up and everybody’s grunting. I’m not interested in doing that.”
The actress stated that she knows that some movies have a benefit artistically when a nude or sex experience is shared but she stated that it’s not an experience that she wants anymore.
“You can use somebody else,” she explained.
“Because I’m too vain and the body has had two children now and I’d just rather not stand in front of a group of men naked.
“If I was making a story that was about that journey of motherhood and body [acceptance], I feel that might be different.
“But, “I feel like, I’m sorry, but that would have to be with a female filmmaker. I don’t have an absolute ban, but I kind of do with men.
“I’m really happy with my body. It’s done an amazing thing. But I also don’t want to stand there in front of a whole film crew.”
