December 06, (THEWILL) – The treatment that football icon, Pele, is receiving for a respiratory infection in a Sao Paulo hospital has helped, as he is reportedly making “progressive improvement”.

As THEWILL reported, the Brazilian legend was admitted to the hospital last week. First, it was said that the 82-year-old had been given palliative care, but his family quickly refuted this. His children told TV Globo, in Brazil, on Sunday, that despite being “sick” and “old”, he would be coming home once his health improved.

The Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, which released a statement on Tuesday, has now provided another encouraging update.

Their statement read: “The patient continues to evolve with progressive improvement of the general condition, especially respiratory infection.” They added that Pele is “[showing] stable vital signs, conscious and without new complications.”

Pele earlier announced on social media that he would be watching Brazil’s World Cup match against South Korea on Monday. The five-time champions won 4-1 and will face Croatia, in the quarter-finals.
